God Will Use You to Heal the Sick
By: David Martin
You will need to remind yourself to expect more of the supernatural and its operation in your life. There are multiple gifts of healing, and one person may have a specialty for cancer, somebody else may have a specialty for diabetes, somebody else may have a specialty for bones. Look for your gift. There are thirty-nine different categories of sickness and disease. The Bible says Yeshua took thirty-nine stripes, or lashes, at the hands of the Roman centurions. I believe each one of the stripes was for a different gift of healing.
Whenever I have a word of knowledge, which is just a piece of information that God gives you, I have learned to expect it to happen. If God speaks to me to pray for somebody about pregnancy, I know that if I pray for that person it doesn’t matter what any doctor said, they’re going to be instantly healed. When gifts of healing are operating, it is also very important for the people to respond. When God gives a word of knowledge for healing, there is an anointing to go with it. What He reveals, He always heals.
For your personal gifts of healing, as your experience grows, maybe ninety-five percent of the time, you can pray with a high degree of confidence to see the instant manifestation. When that gift is operating, you are going to see manifestation. And you will also have reports of healings that come later.
I believe everybody has at least one gift of healing. Ask God, What is my gift? How do You most want to use me in healing? It doesn’t mean that you are called to a miracle ministry and are going to travel around the world ministering, but God wants to use you. God says, “Covet the best gift.” The best gift is the gift you need to get the job done. But ask God. What is one gift I have in the arena of healing? My personal opinion is that when people ask, they hear, because you are asking something that is near to God. When the gift is functioning, the manifestation is seen/experienced immediately. It is not related to any type of natural healing or somebody going into the hospital and having an incredibly successful surgery. Miracles aren’t going to play out exactly like that. When people put their faith in a surgeon or in medicine, their faith is going to work however they apply it. But we need to distinguish between general faith and the gift of faith or the gifts of healing.
We have got to stop limiting ourselves by our perception and the environment that we’re used to. Yeshua was unlimited so why should you be limited? By the power of God anything is possible.
The gift of healing isn’t related to medical science. It is not something you would learn through a therapist, and it is not a medical specialty. But it can work in conjunction with other methods of healing. There are eight biblical ways in which God heals, as follows, and the gift of healing is just one of those eight ways.
Laying on of hands, we can see this in Mark 16:17-18. It says, “And these signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Laying on of hands, that’s one.
Another is anointing with oil. We can see this in James 5:14, “Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”
Here’s another, the prayer of faith. We see this in James 5:15, “And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.”
The prayer of agreement. These are distinct ways for using your faith for the gift of healing. In Matthew 18:19, “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.” The gift of healing will work alongside these. You might be laying hands on somebody, or you might be anointing somebody with oil, and you are just using ordinary faith but the gift of healing may also operate.
And, since we have mentioned it, it operates by the gifts of the Spirit. First Corinthians 12:9-10, “to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.”
Here’s another, and it is one of my favorites. The authoritative name of Yeshua. The Bible says that at the name of Yeshua, every name named in heaven and earth and under the earth must bow its knee. So you speak to the problem, you call it by name. “Cancer, arthritis, diabetes,” whatever the case may be, you use the name of Yeshua. You can also use the name of Yeshua while you are praying a prayer of faith or a prayer of agreement and laying on hands.
There are no limitations. Something God said to me many years ago, “The only limitation you are ever going to have is the one you define.” If you think, “I can’t do this,” then you’ve created a wall, and you’ve created a barrier that’s going to be a limitation for you. Let there be no walls, no barriers. Let’s get anything that would limit us out of the way and know God’s Word is true. We can do all things through Messiah, who strengthens us. We see this in Acts 4:30, “…by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy servant Yeshua.”
Another way that people don’t often think of is through communion. Every time you take communion you are literally receiving Yeshua’s broken body into your life for healing. 1 Corinthians 11, “And when He had given thanks, He broke it, and said, ‘this is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.’” From the King James Version, “And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, ‘Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: do this in remembrance of me.’”
Another operation of healing is the extraordinary operation of God’s ability—extraordinary miracles. People being healed when Peter’s shadow passed over them was one example. Or in Acts 19:11-12, where prayer cloths were taken from Paul. Verse 11 says, “And God was performing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul,” and then it goes on to say, “so that handkerchiefs or aprons were even carried from his body, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out.”
The point of all of this is God is going to heal by grace through faith and you are going to find the greatest opportunity for signs, wonders, and miracles when you step out and pray for somebody, even somebody you don’t know. Talk to somebody at the office, talk to one of your neighbors and ask for the opportunity and what you are going to see is God’s miracle power shows up.
Let’s pray right now for an activation of the gift of God on the inside of you. I believe the power of God can come upon you because you want everything that God has. Specifically, I’m going to pray for an activation of the gifts of healing that you begin to experience more of this gift. One of the reasons it is going to happen is because you expect it. Expectation is the foundation to the miraculous.
I want you to open up your heart. “Father God, use me. Use me in the operation of Your Spirit. Use me with the gifts of healing.” Paul said in Romans 1:11 he was anxious to come to Rome, that he might impart a spiritual gift, that they would be established. That is what we are doing. Just begin to release this miracle healing power, then watch and see what God does through you as you use your faith for His glory.
