Day 33 – God’s Highest Calling

JOHN 17:20-23

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as We are one: I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me (John 17:20-23).

For many, these prayers represent the pinnacle of Christ’s ministry. Jesus said that He had been glorified and that He wants us to be glorified as well. He went even farther by declar­ing that this is the reason why He came—that is, that we would be united in love as one with God forever.This was His highest calling.This is what Jesus died for. Amen.

Reflection

  1. Consider the prayers of Jesus and ask yourself, “Is there anything greater than this that the Lord could do for me?”
  2. How important is it to you to know the purpose for your life?
  3. Are you looking forward to being glorified with God?

 

ESTHER 4:12-14

When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

(Esther 4:12-14)

Queen Esther had favor as the wife of a king. Yet even with her exalted position, she could not approach the king without a specific invita­tion from him. In this passage, Esther was being encouraged to approach the king without such an invitation.This decision could be cause for an immediate death sentence. But Esther decided to overcome her fear of dying because she knew the reason she had been placed in the royal court.

Reflection

  1. How does it affect you to know that a person is willing to die for what he or she believes?
  2. In fact, are we not all living out our beliefs?
  3. Jesus and Esther were willing to die for what they believed. Are you?
