Day 1 - In the Beginning

Day 1

In the Beginning

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all man.The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it (John 1:1-5).

No one knows more about beginnings than the Creator of the universe. Beginnings determine our purpose and our goals. The Book of John tells us that, “In the beginning,” the spoken Word of God became a living being. This living Word was present from the very beginning and was responsible for making everything that was ever made. This life is represented by light. And this light shines in the darkness.

Reflection

  1. How powerful is the Word of God?
  2. Who was in the beginning with God?
  3. How could everything be made through Him?

GENESIS 1:1-5

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day (Genesis 1:1-5).

God created the universe out of a void. There was no form; there were no materials to start with. This was the beginning of all creation. With only a Word, God created light. Next we discover that God said, “It is good.”

Then He differentiated between light and darkness. And time began.

Reflection

  1. How did God create the universe?
  2. Where was the Spirit of God?
  3. Why is there both light and darkness?
