Day 12 - God Reveals Himself

Day 12 – God Reveals Himself

JOHN 5:37-40

And the Father who sent Me has Himself testified concerning Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen His form, nor does His word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one He sent. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life (John 5:37-40).

We read the Bible because we want to know how God reveals Himself to us in our lives. Often we don’t know where or how to find Him. Wise men have long sought to find God and the Messiah within the pages of the Holy Scriptures. How ironic that, after our long quest, we discover He has always been with us.

Reflection

  1. Have you ever lost or looked for something of great value?
  2. Has God revealed Himself to you in His Word?
  3. When you study the Holy Scriptures, do you see Jesus?

NUMBERS 24:15-19

Then he uttered his oracle: “The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of one whose eye sees clearly, the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth. Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong, A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city” (Numbers 24:15-19).

Sometimes the Bible uses language that is unfamiliar to us. Jacob is one of the Bible’s names for Israel. Many of the territories surrounding Israel gave them trouble. Moab had a history of strife with Israel. Interestingly, the nations occupying the same lands as Moab did often disagree with Israel in these days. In those days, as in our own time, God reveals Himself to save Israel.

Reflection

  1. What is the meaning of “A star will come out of Jacob” (see verse 17)?
  2. Why does God protect Israel?
  3. Is bloodline important to God?
