Day 24 - To Everything There Is a Season

Day 24 – To Everything There Is a Season

JOHN 12:27-33

“Now My heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name!”

Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.” The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to Him.

Jesus said, “This voice was for your benefit, not Mine. Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out. But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

He said this to show the kind of death He was going to die.” (John 12:27-33)

One of the great mysteries of life concerns our beginning (or origin) and our final resting place (or goal). None of us are capable of predicting the experience of either life or death with certainty. Yet Jesus predicted both the time and means of His life and death. God’s heavenly masterpiece of perfect timing was set in motion, was walked out on earth, and was ultimately fulfilled on a mount outside the walls of Jerusalem. There, as the ironic symbol of God’s triumph through death, is the vision of Jesus being raised high on a cross, suspended between Heaven and earth.

Reflection

  1. What would you like God to say when you reach the end of your days?
  2. What do you think God wants you to complete during your life?
  3. Has God already shown you His plan?
  4. Are you waiting for His instructions?

ECCLESIASTES 3:1-2

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2).

In Ecclesiastes, Solomon, said to be the wisest man who ever lived, attempted to pull together the loose ends of his life into an understandable context. As we gain this king’s perspective on life, we see God’s perfect timing, even in the midst of seemingly random circumstances. Solomon finally concluded that, apart from the revelation of knowing God, life has no meaning or significance (see Eccles. 2:24-26).

Reflection

  1. Does this passage give you a broader understanding of the seasons of your life?
  2. Do you think fulfilling God’s plan for your life will affect your encounter with Him after you die?
