Introduction to the Gifts of God's Holy Spirit

Introduction to the Gifts of God’s Holy Spirit

By: David Martin

These teachings on the gifts of the Spirit are meant to prepare you for the most exciting time in all of history. God chose us to be a part of what are—prophetically—the closing pages of history. The purpose of these teachings is for you to learn to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. In that way you can walk in the fullness of the life that Yeshua has planned for you.

This is probably one of the most important lessons that anyone could bring you. God wants you to walk in the supernatural, so that your supernatural becomes natural. Learning the operation of the gifts of the Spirit is fun, it is exciting, and you are going to find it is dynamic.

Yeshua told the disciples just before He ascended into heaven to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit. He said they would receive power when the Spirit comes upon them. That power is the Greek word “dunamis.” That’s where we get the word dynamite. It is going to become natural for you to follow the pattern of Yeshua, doing what He did and even greater.

You are also going to find this: as you begin to incorporate the gifts of the Spirit, it is the greatest joy you are ever going to have. There is nothing more rewarding than to know you made a difference in somebody’s life. People need to see the reality of a miracle-working God.

The operation of the Holy Spirit is the foundation for the corporate body of believers. When we look at the believers as described in the book of Acts, it is amazing. There are over 50 different occasions where you can identify the work of the Holy Spirit.

Today, there’s a move of God happening like the world has never seen. God has designed it so it would be simple and you are going to learn how to do the works of God. You are going to recognize the power and simplicity of God’s Word.

The foundation of the first assemblies of believers was the anointing. When the very first believers gathered in Acts chapter two, the gifts of the Spirit began to flow. Through the operation of the Holy Spirit, you are going to literally step into a realm of opportunity to move in signs, wonders and miracles.

The moment you are born again and baptized with the Holy Spirit, you are qualified to do the miraculous. I often say, “God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.” More than anything you need simple childlike faith, because it is not hard.

God literally called me in 1979 to learn the operation of the gifts of the Spirit. In 1978 I was involved in the occult and in Silva Mind Control. Prior to that, I was trained as a psychic and got paid for that. Praise God for the blood of Yeshua! I got redeemed.

Through these teachings you will learn the importance of meditation—but not the New Age kind. There are over one hundred references in the Bible to meditating. The Hebrew word for meditate is “hagah.” That word literally means “to use your imagination.” Psalm 1 says that we should meditate on the law, God’s Word, day and night. Then we’re going to be like the tree planted by the rivers. To meditate is to mutter, to ponder. It will help you to meditate on the stories of miracles in Scripture and imagine yourself doing those same works of God.

This is your introduction to the gifts of the Spirit and how they work. And what you will see in your childlike faith is that miracles happen because of faith. So you need to understand how to use your faith and recognize it is God’s will for you to walk in the supernatural.

We are going to be developing our faith to increase the use of the gifts, and then we’re going to get into the two-fold work of the Spirit. In Acts 26, Paul recounts when Yeshua appeared to him. He said, “for this reason have I called you, Paul, to take the gospel to the Gentiles, to deliver them out of darkness, to bring them into light, give them the forgiveness of sins and their inheritance.”

And the most valuable lesson is understanding what your inheritance is and the significance of hearing the voice of God. There is nothing more important than knowing what God is saying. Every moment of every day, He wants to help you in this, leading you in the supernatural. Hearing the voice of God is part of your inheritance.

We praise God for the miracles and the gift of faith and the words of wisdom and knowledge, prophecy and tongues. But it all comes back to one very simple principle or precept, something Yeshua said, “I do nothing except what I hear my Father say or I see my Father do.”
