Day 17 - The Truth Shall Set You Free

Day 17 – The Truth Shall Set You Free

JOHN 8:31-32

To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”

(John 8:31-32).

Father God desires that we would discern and employ His wisdom, as found in the Holy Scriptures. It is these words and Jesus, the Word of God that became flesh, that the Lord refers to when He says, “If you hold to My teaching….” The Lord informs us that our yearning to live according to His Word allows us to discern genuine truth and live in freedom. Hallelujah!

Reflection

  1. Did you know that the prerequisite for knowing the truth is living in obedience to God’s Word?
  2. What does this knowledge do to your understanding of truth?
  3. Who alone can set the standard for truth?

1 KINGS 3:7-12

“Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give Your servant a discerning heart to govern Your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?”

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be”

(1 Kings 3:7-12).

King Solomon humbly asked the Lord to give him the ability to discern between good and evil. Solomon asked to know the truth, for who can discern between good and evil without knowing truth? This request for wisdom so pleased the Lord that God granted Solomon great riches as well.

Reflection

  1. If God asked you what gift you want, what would be your answer?
  2. How does God honor people who put Him above everything else?
  3. Is your greatest request to be rich or to know the truth?
