Day 29 - The Reason for Love

Day 29 – The Reason for Love

JOHN 15:9-13

As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed My Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends (John 15:9-13).

We often talk about love. We seldom look at what God calls love. Biblical love requires a sacrifice. For God to love us cost Him the life of His Son. Yet that was the Lord’s reason for being here—to lay down His life for us.

Reflection

  1. How does God’s love compare to ours?
  2. Have you ever loved someone so much you would die for him or her?

PROVERBS 10:12

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs (Proverbs 10:12).

Consider how much time you spend learning about and thinking about love. Usually this is in the context of your relationships with your fellow human beings. Looking at your relationship with God requires a different perspective. Try to imagine what God thinks about love.

Reflection

  1. What do you think God feels about you?
  2. Is it hard to think about God loving you?
  3. How can love cover all sins?
