Seeing Your Supernatural Potential
By: David Martin
When God called me out of the darkness and into His light, I began to see miracles. It started in my first week that I got baptized in the Holy Spirit. I did not understand what was happening, but God just gifted me. I was about six weeks into it when God said to me, “I want you to understand the miraculous.” For thirty-five years now I’ve been studying how Yeshua did what He did. And today there is such an excitement on the inside of me about what God wants to do in these closing pages of history.
The first believers also started with the operation of the supernatural, with the outpouring in the upper room on Pentecost (Shavuot). The signs, wonders and miracles of the apostles caused a dramatic growth in the number of believers. Yeshua’s disciples, it says in Acts 17:6, “turned the world upside down.”
The key verse that God gave me is John 14:12. It is Yeshua’s last message, the last thing He said before He went to the cross. I believe that His last message is the summation, the most important thing of all the things that Yeshua said. He says, “Truly, truly, I say unto you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.”
As a believer, you are qualified. Again, God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.
Today there are millions of people who are born again, baptized with the Holy Spirit, and some of them are operating in the supernatural. My personal belief is we haven’t scratched the surface of our potential, which is nothing less than what God wants to accomplish here on planet earth.
I’m approaching God’s vision and purposes from a whole different paradigm, and that is helping you to understand the principles and precepts with faith, knowing the will of God and understanding how God works. With that as a foundation, we can now bring in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Now I want to show you something from the Word of God in terms of the miracles that Yeshua did. The very first miracle of Yeshua was turning water into wine. What happened in this miracle is molecular change. All miracles happen basically the same way the first miracle happened. At the quantum level, at the unseen level, everything is vibrating energy. The Bible says we have the ability to call those things into existence that be not (Romans 4:17). God taught us through Abraham to call those things that be not as though they are. We see in Hebrews 11:1, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” When we have a basic understanding of the operation of the miraculous, how miracles happen and how God works within the laws of creation, it makes the operation of doing the miraculous through gifts of the Spirit much easier.
It is simple childlike faith. As a Spirit-filled believer, you will learn these gifts of the Spirit, and you will recognize that your God, your Father Almighty, can fix anything.
We have such a small perspective. One of the things we have to do is to think with the bigness of God. Often we are limited by our environment, by what we understand to be reality as opposed to the reality of the Word of God.
As an example, if you were to take a baby shark and you put that baby shark into a 30-gallon aquarium, what happens? After a year’s time, that shark isn’t going to be much bigger. It is going to be about the same size because within the laws of creation, things develop according to their environment. That shark is limited by the barriers of the walls of the tank. If we take that same shark and we put it into a large city aquarium, it might grow to four or five feet, but it will never reach its full potential because it is still limited by its man-made environment. Now if we take that same shark and we put it where it belongs, in the ocean, that shark is going to grow ten to twelve feet. Why? It is living without boundaries. What God wants to do is to help you to recognize you serve a God that has no boundaries. He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond all you can ever ask, think or imagine. He wants you to recognize that every miracle or sign or wonder, everything Yeshua did and all the things the apostles did by the acts of the Holy Spirit—you and I are also called to do. God wants you to emulate Messiah. It should be as natural as breathing. But we have to get out of our box. We have to get beyond our boundaries that say, “I can’t do that.” That is not what God says.
Recently, I was at a funeral for the wife of a great man of God, Terry Mize. Terry shared how before they got married some forty years previous, his then fiancé Jackie said, “Terry, I can’t marry you.” So he said, “Why?” And she replied, “Well, I’ve not been truthful. A couple of things I’ve not told you, you don’t know and I can’t marry you.” It was two weeks before the wedding. He said, “What?” She replied, “Doctors said that I have a disease and by the time I’m thirty, I’m going to be an invalid.” And he said, “What’s the other thing?” She replied, “Doctors said because of another medical problem it is medically impossible for me to have children. I know you want a family.” So he said, “Who told you that?” She replied, “Well, doctors.” He said, “That is not what God says. Whose report are you going to believe?”
Are you going to believe the report of the natural world or are you going to believe the report of an Almighty God that says you can do all things by the anointing, by Messiah in you? Who are you going to believe? Terry and Jackie chose to believe God. They got married two weeks later. She went to be with the Lord at 64 years old. Although she died early, what the doctors said was proved wrong and the marriage produced four beautiful children and a whole barnful of grandchildren. Terry believed the Word of God.
That is why we’re going to put time into understanding some basic principles of the will of God, because faith begins where the will of God is known. And as we establish some of these foundation principles and faith, it is going to help you to step into the operation of the gifts of the Spirit. Every one of those gifts are there for you to advance the Kingdom of God. Some of the gifts are unique to different people, let’s call them specialties, because God distributes separately as He wills. But in 1 Corinthians 12:31 it says to Covet the best gifts. The best gift is what you need to get the job done, whether it is you getting out of debt or fulfilling the mission or overcoming some problem, handicap or whatever sickness it might be. Even more importantly, there’s a multitude of people out there that need to be saved.
Yes, He wants you healthy and the gifts of the Spirit will help you to accomplish that and be out of debt and have money to do whatever God wants you to do. But the bigger picture is to know that by you, the signs, the wonders and the miracles are going to cause people to be provoked to accept Yeshua because the world is looking for the reality of a miracle-working God. Imagine the reality of the bigness of the sea that you are swimming in as a fish for God. The Word of God tells us the world couldn’t contain all the books that would be written, that recorded the works of Yeshua. All Yeshua did is beyond counting. It is beyond measure and His plans for us are that big too. As you begin to put your faith into this day after day, you may start with five or ten events in the course of a day. But you are going to use your faith when you wake up in the morning, and the next day you are going to have a couple more because God is a God of increase. You are going to see an increase for the glory of God.
